When gas prices first began dipping mid-2015, Americans consumers celebrated. The cost of a barrel had been cut by more than 60 percent since June of 2014, and by the time Labor Day rolled around in 2015, gas prices were at 2004 levels. This translated to more than 5 percent of gas stations nationwide selling gas for less than $2 per gallon.
