Paper mills are generally enormous sites with a large number of employees, with one of the largest in Indonesia located on a 6.7 square mile site. So with so many closures occurring, what happens to these huge facilities that are gutted and left behind?

There is no shortage of news articles about paper mills closing and contributing to the decline of the paper industry in general. With electronic communication taking over both at work and at home and replacing much of what used to be the paper industry's bread and butter, it's no wonder that the once thriving industry that saw over 400 mills in the U.S. back in 2005 now struggles to keep 300 mills open and faces closures every day.
