H.J. Heinz Co. was purchased by Berkshire Hathaway and 3G Capital in what is being called one of the largest deals in food industry history.
Berkshire Hathaway already owns Dairy Queen, See's Candies, as well as minority shares in Coca-Cola and Anheuser-Busch. 3G Capital also has a stake in Anheuser-Busch, and purchased Burger King in 2010.

Awrey Bakeries has been sold by its shareholders to a buyer who plans to continue operation of the facility. With the resulting sale, the auction at the Awrey plant scheduled for February
20th and 21st in Livonia, Michigan, will not take place.
Over the President's Day weekend. Rabin Worldwide was notified of a last-minute offer to purchase Awrey's entire business. "We had no idea this was coming, and with a big auction at the facility scheduled for the next week, we were quite surprised at the offer,” said Richard Reese, President/CEO of Rabin Worldwide. "Together with Rabin's partners Union Confectionery Machinery and Loeb Winternitz Industrial Auctioneers, everyone continued to prepare the site for the upcoming auction, while simultaneously allowing negotiations between Awrey and their potential buyer to move forward."
The 103-year-old company was one of the largest privately owned bakeries in the U.S., and just closed this month, laying off its workforce. The bakery produced fresh and frozen pastries, breads, and cakes. With a sale of the complete facility, Rabin anticipates Awrey Bakeries will be able to continue operations. The sale would have broad benefits to the town of Livonia, which has been impacted by the economic downturn — from relieving taxes and debts to putting people back to work.
